Our Mission
Himalayan Threads partners with Shail Rachna Artisan’s Society (a non profit organization) to provide training programme for women artisans in rural Uttarakhand, enhancing their craftsmanship. We ensure fair pay, recognition and add a touch of modernization to our traditional art & crafts. Going organic and eco-friendly is a rewarding journey that demands patience and attention to detail. Our goal is to foster livelihoods for people in hills , reverse migration and embrace Himalayan lifestyle.

Rooted in the Himalayas
A Founder’s Note
Himalayan Threads began with a simple question.
As a Fashion Design student, I was once assigned a craft documentation project and chose to study a craft from another state. It made me wonder – what were the traditional arts and crafts of my own state, Uttarakhand?
Having travelled across India, I had seen how every region proudly celebrated its heritage through crafts, textiles, and souvenirs. Yet Uttarakhand seemed to have very little representation in the market. To my surprise, I realized I knew very little about the rich artistic traditions of my own homeland.
This curiosity led me across the villages of Uttarakhand, where I met artisans and craft communities preserving traditions such as Aipan art, Ringal craft, Tamta metalwork, wooden mask making, wood carving, handloom weaving, and Thulma weaving.
What I discovered was not a lack of skill or heritage, but a gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern markets. Many crafts had seen little design development over the years, making it difficult for artisans to reach national and international audiences.
Alongside crafts, I discovered the region’s rich wellness traditions – from hemp and nettle fibres to herbal incense, natural oils, traditional foods, and plant-based products. Deeply rooted in local knowledge and nature, these traditions too remained largely unknown beyond the mountains.
I also saw opportunities in Uttarakhand’s natural resources. One such resource was the Himalayan Pine. Through Pine Craft, we began transforming fallen pine needles into thoughtfully designed lifestyle and gifting products, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities while celebrating the identity of the Himalayas.
I founded Himalayan Threads to bridge these gaps. By combining traditional knowledge with contemporary design, innovation, and responsible sourcing, we create products that honour heritage while connecting with today’s market.
Himalayan Threads is more than a brand – it is an effort to preserve, promote, and reimagine the crafts, wellness traditions, and natural heritage of Uttarakhand for future generations. It is a journey to EMPOWER, EMBRACE and CREATE.
